Most companies offer full or partial packing as an add-on, priced by hours plus materials. Full packing can add 30-50% to the bill but transfers breakage liability for boxes the movers packed. If you pack yourself, finish before moving day — crews charge waiting time when boxes aren't ready.

Warning signs: quotes far below everyone else, large cash deposits, no physical address or registration, and refusing a written contract. The classic scam is a lowball quote followed by a demand for more money while your goods are on the truck. Pay a small deposit at most, check reviews across platforms, and verify any claimed accreditation directly on the trade body's website.

Standard exclusions: hazardous materials (gas bottles, paint, chemicals, fuel — drain mowers first), perishable food, plants on long moves, and high-value items like jewellery, cash and documents, which you should carry yourself. Some firms also exclude or surcharge pianos, safes, and gym equipment — declare them upfront.

Midweek (Tuesday-Thursday) and mid-month dates are consistently cheapest, since leases and completions cluster at month-end and weekends sell out. Off-season months also quote lower. If your dates are flexible, ask each Kowloon company which of your candidate dates is cheapest — some openly discount slow days.

Declutter first — volume drives price, and a skip-load of junk can be cheaper than moving it. Pack yourself, dismantle furniture in advance, book midweek and mid-month, and be fully ready when the crew arrives (hourly clocks run while you tape boxes). Moving the small stuff yourself by car and leaving only furniture to the pros also shrinks the crew hours.

Local moves are usually billed hourly for a crew plus truck, with a 2-3 hour minimum; long-distance moves are priced by volume/weight and distance as a fixed quote. Hourly suits small, well-prepared moves; a binding fixed quote protects you on bigger jobs where hours are hard to predict. Ask which model the quote uses and what's included (fuel, travel time, materials).

A studio or 1-bedroom flat move typically runs HK$1,500-HK$4,000, a 2-bedroom HK$2,500-HK$7,000, and larger flats HK$4,500-HK$15,000. Quotes are per job based on your item list; stair access in walk-ups and podium carries add per-floor charges.

Access. Movers price stairs (per floor, per heavy item), long carries from the loading bay, and lift size limits — a sofa that won't fit the lift may need stair-carrying or even hoisting. Send photos of both buildings' access with your inventory to get a realistic quote the first time.
