Ask about full-value protection or goods-in-transit insurance, what it costs, and what's excluded — owner-packed boxes are usually not covered for breakage. Declutter first — volume drives price, and a skip-load of junk can be cheaper than moving it. Pack yourself, dismantle furniture in advance, book midweek and mid-month, and be fully ready when the crew arrives (hourly clocks run while you tape boxes). Moving the small stuff yourself by car and leaving only furniture to the pros also shrinks the crew hours.

Tipping norms vary by country — common in North America (roughly $5 per mover per hour or 5-10% of the bill for good service), appreciated but not expected in the UK, Australia and most of Europe and Asia. Cold drinks and easy parking access are universally welcomed. Never feel obliged to tip for careless service.
