Labour for a straight swap (same location, existing connections sound) is typically 1-3 hours, plus the cost of the toilet itself. Prices climb when the old flange or shut-off valve needs replacing, the floor needs making good, or the new model doesn't match existing connections. Ask the plumber to quote 'supply and fit' and 'fit only' so you can compare buying the toilet yourself.

Reasonable DIY: replacing a tap washer or cartridge, a toilet flapper or fill valve, unblocking a trap under a sink, and re-sealing around a bath. Leave to a pro: anything on gas, mains-pressure connections, hot-water systems, work behind walls, and anything your local rules restrict to licensed plumbers — DIY on regulated work can void insurance.

Plumbers charge either an hourly rate plus a call-out fee, or a fixed price per job. Small repairs (dripping tap, running toilet) usually cost one to two hours of labour plus parts; bigger jobs like replacing a toilet or water heater are quoted fixed. Always ask whether the call-out fee is waived if you go ahead with the work.

Fixed-price quotes for defined jobs have some room, especially if you are flexible on timing or bundle several jobs into one visit. Hourly rates rarely move. What works better than haggling: asking for the quote to be itemised, supplying your own fixtures (if the plumber agrees), and scheduling non-urgent work in the plumber's quiet periods.

After-hours rates typically run 1.5-2x the standard rate plus a higher call-out fee, because you are paying for guaranteed fast response at unsociable hours. If you can make the situation safe by shutting off water and waiting until morning, you will usually pay half as much for the same repair.

Many plumbers quote labour only because parts vary enormously — a tap can cost ten times more than another tap. 'Parts extra' is fine if the plumber estimates the range up front and shows receipts. Be wary of open-ended parts pricing with no estimate; ask for a not-to-exceed figure on the total.

Skilled tradesman wages are low (around ₱90-₱100/hour), but billed service rates are higher: minor repairs run ₱350-₱1,500 per job, unclogging ₱500-₱2,500, and a full-day skilled rate ₱800-₱2,000 plus materials. Metro Manila is 30-50% above provincial rates.

Not for repairs — a competent tradesman is fine for taps, leaks, and clogs. A PRC-licensed Master Plumber is required when plans need sign-off: new construction, major renovations needing building permits, or condo projects where admin requires sealed plans.
