Three to six months before the exam for consolidation, or a full year for a student targeting a big grade jump. Starting six weeks out limits the tutor to triage — past-paper drilling on the highest-weight topics.

Rates start around RM30-50/hr for primary and lower secondary, RM50-100/hr for SPM subjects, and RM100-150+ for IGCSE/A-Level or experienced specialist tutors. KL and Penang sit at the top of each band.

Centres (RM100-300/month per subject for group classes) win on cost and structured notes; home tutors win on personal attention and schedule fit. A common pattern: centre classes for core subjects, a home tutor for the one subject that's genuinely stuck.
