A chemical wash cleans the coil, blower, and drain pan in place. A chemical overhaul dismantles the indoor unit completely, soaks the parts, checks bearings and seals, and reassembles it. Choose an overhaul when a wash has not fixed persistent leaks, noise, or weak cooling, or for units neglected for years.

Most charge a call-out or diagnostic fee that covers travel and the first inspection; many waive or credit it against the repair if you go ahead. Confirm the fee, whether it is credited, and any surcharge for evenings, weekends, or urgent same-day visits before the technician is dispatched.

A unit that trips the breaker at startup usually has a failing compressor, a shorted capacitor, or a wiring fault — all electrical faults that need a technician. Do not keep resetting the breaker; repeated tripping can damage the compressor beyond repair.

Inverter units vary compressor speed instead of switching on and off, so they hold temperature more steadily and cost 20-40% less to run for long daily use. Non-inverter units are cheaper upfront and fine for rooms cooled a few hours a day. For daily whole-day use, the inverter premium usually pays back in 2-3 years.

Once a year is the minimum for a system used seasonally; every 3-4 months if you run it daily in a hot climate. Regular servicing keeps coils and filters clean, which protects the compressor — the most expensive part to replace — and keeps energy use down.

A standard service covers cleaning or replacing filters, cleaning the evaporator coil and blower, flushing the drainage tray and pipe, checking refrigerant pressure, testing thermostat and controls, and inspecting electrical connections. It does not include repairs, parts, or refrigerant top-ups — those are quoted separately.

Normal service is RM50-RM90 per unit (bundles cheaper per unit), chemical wash RM130-RM200 per unit, and chemical overhaul RM250-RM400 per unit. Gas top-up, when genuinely needed, adds RM50-RM150 for R32/R410A depending on amount.

Every 3 months for daily-use bedrooms and living rooms; haze season (usually mid-year) clogs filters faster, so check filters monthly during haze episodes. A chemical wash every 12-18 months keeps cooling strong in Malaysian humidity.
