Leather needs a different process — pH-balanced leather cleaners and conditioners, never hot water extraction. Many fabric-sofa cleaners also offer leather care, but confirm they carry proper leather products and have done aniline vs protected leather before.

Fresh water-based stains usually come out; old set-in stains, dye transfer (e.g. jeans), ink, and bleach spots are often permanent. An honest cleaner will inspect first and tell you what will lighten versus disappear — be wary of anyone guaranteeing full removal sight unseen.

Hot water extraction leaves fabric damp for 4-8 hours; low-moisture methods dry in 1-2 hours. Good airflow, fans, or air conditioning speed it up. Avoid sitting on the sofa until fully dry to prevent re-soiling and watermarks.

Most professionals use hot water extraction ('steam cleaning') for synthetic fabrics, and low-moisture or dry solvent cleaning for delicate or water-sensitive fabrics. The right method follows the fabric care code: W (water-based), S (solvent), WS (either), X (vacuum only).

Usually per piece or per seat: an armchair costs less than a 3-seater sofa, and sectionals/L-shapes are priced by the number of seats. Mattresses are priced by size. Heavily soiled fabric, pet treatment, and stain protection are common add-ons.

Avoid peak humid season (March-May) if you can't run a dehumidifier — fabric can stay damp over a day. Autumn's drier air, or any time with aircon dry-mode running, gets a sofa dry in a few hours.
