Lessons are priced per session, usually as a 30- or 60-minute slot, with the hourly rate falling if you commit to a monthly block. The biggest price drivers are the teacher's experience, whether lessons are in-person or online, and whether they travel to you (home-visit lessons cost more).

Beginners and younger children often do better with 30-minute lessons — focus fades and there's only so much to practise between sessions. Yes — you can't progress without one to practise on at home. A modest beginner acoustic or electric is enough to start; ask your prospective teacher for a recommendation and don't overspend before you know you'll stick with it. Some teachers keep a spare for the first trial lesson only.
